  • GOLD VERMEIL

Gold vermeil is superior to gold plated jewellery. My vermeil pieces are sterling silver with 3-4 microns of 18 karat gold on top. For reference, ‘gold plated’ jewellery can have as little as 0.25 microns of 9 karat gold on top of a base metal such as brass.

Gold vermeil is the highest standard when it comes to gold plated jewellery. It’s in the same family as gold plated jewellery because it uses a similar process in which the sterling silver is dipped into a bath of electroplating solution. The difference is that it is dipped for a longer period of time, creating a thicker layer of gold plating. Gold vermeil jewellery should hold its plating for years if it’s looked after well.

Gold vermeil jewellery will last much longer if not in contact with the skin (eg. hoop earrings or a necklace worn over clothing as opposed to a ring on your finger!). It’s best to wear gold vermeil items by themselves so they don’t rub together. I cannot give a guarantee for how long your gold vermeil jewellery will last as a number of factors affect its longevity.

    GOLD FILLED CHAINS

All of my gold coloured chains are gold filled.

Gold filled jewellery is where a gold alloy is permanently bonded to the base metal, utilising both heat and pressure. Gold filled jewellery will never lose its golden hue, since the gold is permanently bonded to the base metal.

Gold filled chains are higher quality than gold plated chains as the amount of real gold is much thicker. Gold filled chains have a higher intrinsic value than gold plated chains because the gold is thick enough to be retrievable from the piece if necessary.

    SOLID GOLD JEWELS

All of my jewellery can be made in solid gold on request.

Solid gold jewellery has a much lighter gold colour than gold vermeil as it tends to have a lower concentration of gold which causes a lighter hue. Solid gold jewellery is the best gold option for everyday wear. It will never tarnish or discolour and will last forever with minimal care.

    LOCAL COLLECTION

If you live close to Cardigan (West Wales, UK) and would rather collect your jewellery from my studio then you are welcome to do so! Simply select ‘Pickup’ at checkout.

My studio address is Unit 18, Canolfan Teifi Arcade, Pendre, Cardigan, SA43 1JL.

You’ll need to email me to arrange a date and time which works for both of us.

  • As my jewellery is made by hand there may be minor ‘imperfections’ which make each piece unique. I am unable to offer refunds on earrings for hygiene reasons or on made to measure rings. If you'd like to return or exchange another item, please get in touch within 14 days of receiving your order. Unfortunately I am unable to cover any postage costs but can refund the item itself upon receipt, provided it is returned unused.

I offer free repairs for life, for if ever your jewellery needs mending due to no fault of your own. This excludes new chains and re-plating which can be provided at cost price. I don’t offer a repair service for anything which hasn’t been made by me.

  • Sustainability is important to me. I use eco-silver (certified recycled silver which hasn’t been mined) and all cast items are made using recycled precious metals. I reuse my scrap materials and prefer to use ethically sourced gemstones. When orders involve casting, stone-setting, engraving or plating they’re posted to Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. There they are finished by hand in independent and ethical workshops where the use of chemicals is kept to a minimum. My packaging is always recycled and recyclable.

  • All jewellery will tarnish over time but it will happen much faster when in contact with perfume, hairspray, creams or chlorine. Definitely don’t let gold vermeil jewellery near hand sanitiser! Try to keep your jewellery dry and don’t leave it sat in the bathroom. Store it in a dark and airtight space. Silver can tarnish quite quickly when unworn and exposed to air.

Clean your silver jewellery every so often using a soft toothbrush with mild, soapy water and/or a polishing cloth. Take extra care when polishing gold vermeil jewellery and only do so when really necessary.

If you feel an item made by me is in need of some extra TLC please get in touch to arrange for it to be restored.

    TOWN TALK

If over time your jewellery has become more tarnished and is due a good clean I highly recommend and sell Town Talk’s cleaning solutions. I use Town Talk Silver Sparkle Dip for silver jewellery without gemstones, and a silver polishing cloth if necessary.

For gold and gold vermeil pieces with or without hard gemstones I use Town Talk Jewel Sparkle Dip, with their more gentle microfibre cloth if necessary. (Hard gemstones include diamonds, topaz, citrine, ruby, sapphires, aquamarine, garnet and peridot).

For silver jewellery with any gemstones, or gold / gold vermeil with delicate gemstones (eg. emeralds) it is recommended that only the metal part is dipped in the relevant cleaning solution, avoiding the gemstones. You can then use the solution with the cleaning brush provided to carefully clean around the gemstones.

    BAKING SODA METHOD

✿ Mix approx. 250ml of boiling water with 1 tbsp of salt, 1 tbsp of baking soda and 1 tbsp of washing up liquid

✿ Soak your jewellery in the solution for 10 minutes

✿ Rinse the items in cool water and pat dry with a clean and gentle towel

  • Have you purchased or been gifted a ring carving kit? Are you looking for the instructions? Here they are! The password should be in your kit / email me if you need a new one.

Please note that due to the increasing cost of materials, there may be a small additional charge towards silver casting if your kit is returned later than 6 months after the date of purchase. Thank you for understanding.

  • RING SIZING

Before placing your order on a ring, please be sure of your size as my designs are unable to be altered and would have to be made again. If you're not sure of your size I can send you an accurate UK ring sizer.
